Cancelling Guarantees

Once a return, refund, or appeasement has been completed, merchants can cancel the Signifyd Guarantee associated with the order. Guarantee cancellations reduce or eliminate coverage and are accompanied by a prorated invoice credit based on the refunded amount.

Guarantee cancellations are supported via:

No separate cancellation object is needed — simply include refund details and the applicable status in the request.

Validation Requirements

  • Cancellations can only be requested for orders created within the last 30 days (timeline may differ for travel or ticketing merchants)
  • The refund amount may never exceed the original guaranteed amount
  • The request must include a valid orderId and postSaleRequestId
  • Items must have a non-zero price and quantity
  • For full cancellations, the sum of item prices must match the guarantee amount
  • The postSaleRequestId must be unique per cancellation call
  • Use the refundAmount field to specify the total reduction in coverage (always a positive number)

Financial Impact

  • Cancellations may incur a fee per request based on your contract
  • This fee, along with the coverage credit, will appear as separate line items on your Signifyd invoice
  • Only one cancellation fee is applied per order, even if there are multiple refund events
  • Partial cancellations are cumulative — crediting the invoice amount over time until it matches the original guarantee (No refunds beyond the original approved guarantee amount will be issued)

Reporting Implications

  • Orders with full cancellations are excluded from most reporting metrics
  • Partial cancellations do not change the guarantee disposition (ACCEPT, DECLINE, or CANCELLED) → The order will continue to appear in reporting metrics as long as the guarantee was partially active

Chargeback Implications

  • Guarantee cancellations (full or partial) typically do not affect chargeback eligibility
  • However, if a chargeback is filed before the cancellation is recorded, coverage may still apply to the dispute
