Recommended Actions
Signifyd returns a recommended action in every API response. You can integrate these actions with your backend, frontend, or orchestration layer to handle risk decisions automatically. Use them to control user flows, trigger verification steps such as multi-factor authentication, notify customers of unusual activity, or send events directly to your fraud dashboard without any extra manual work.
| Action | Description |
|---|---|
| ALLOW | Let the event proceed normally. No additional checks are needed. |
| STEP_UP | Pause the flow and require extra verification (for example, MFA or a challenge). |
| DENY | Reject the event outright and do not persist or apply the change. |
| ALERT | Allow the event but immediately notify the user of unusual activity (for example, via email or SMS). |
| FLAG | Allow the event. Signifyd will use this flag in downstream flows like checkout to apply added scrutiny where needed. |
Each action is the result of Signifyd’s internal risk disposition, which combines machine learning predictions and default rules. Merchants can configure their own custom policies that override this disposition to reflect their specific risk tolerance or business needs. When an overriding policy is triggered, it becomes the basis for the final recommended action returned in the API response.
